The Sasquatch Scramble PENULTIMATE PRE-RACE MESSAGE 2014!

Hey Folks,

We’re just a few days away from the race! We’re excited and we hope you are too!

We’ve been receiving a TON of emails inquiring about a variety of things. This email is designed to address pretty much any/all questions and/or concerns you may have. PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS POST CAREFULLY!

BIB/SHIRT PICKUP ON RACE DAY (SATURDAY) FROM 7:30-9AM.

If you missed our bib/shirt pickup events, you can collect your bib/shirt on race day between 7:30AM-9AM at the Quail/Owl picnic area in Redwood Regional Park (where the race starts). Bring ID. We will ask for your last name to identify you on the race roster.

WE ARE SOLD OUT!

We’ve had a few people inquire if we are ‘really’ sold out. Rest assured, we are REALLY SOLD OUT! With this mind, please tell any friends of yours who are interested that we simply can’t support anymore runners.

WE ARE NOT ISSUING REFUNDS/TRANSFERS

When you signed up for the Sasquatch Scramble, you initialed a waiver that included the following verbiage,

‘I understand that entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to future Sasquatch Racing events.’

We’re very sorry if you are injured or personal/professional challenges will prevent you from participating.

IF YOU COLLECTED YOUR BIB AT ONE OF OUR BIB/SHIRT PICKUP EVENTS, DON’T FORGET IT!

This may seem pretty basic, but we had MANY people from our previous races forget to bring their bib on race day. Please remember to bring your bib (and WEAR IT) as it’s the most critical piece of information by which we identify you!

This is NOT A CHIP TIMED RACE! WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO SEE YOUR BIB IN ORDER TO ACCURATELY CAPTURE YOUR TIME!

IF YOU SIGNED UP FOR THE HALF OR 10K AND WANT TO DO THE 5K OR 10K, YOU MUST LET US KNOW ON SATURDAY MORNING BETWEEN 7:30-9AM AT BIB/SHIRT PICKUP.

This is absolutely CRITICAL. In order for us to accurately capture results, we MUST update our roster with any changes of this nature. Please let us know on race morning at bib/shirt pickup if your plan is to run a shorter distance than what you signed up for!

RACE DAY PARKING & LOGISTICS

The race starts at the Canyon Meadow Staging Area in Redwood Regional Park. You will enter via the ‘Redwood Gate’.

The best address to use for mapping/navigational purposes is 7867 Redwood Road. You will be entering via the ‘Redwood Gate’. The race starts at the Quail/Owl picnic areas at the end of the park.

A number of you purchased parking permits for $5.

As it turns out, Redwood Regional is NOT charging for parking on Saturday. With this in mind, we will be issuing refunds to those of you who purchased said permits.

For anyone who did not purchase a parking permit, you don’t need to worry about bringing cash to the race for parking as parking will be free.

CARPOOLING IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED! There are 250+ participants in the race and only 200 parking spots at the park. With this in mind, we STRONGLY encourage carpooling to the race. Those who carpool will be directed to parking spots closer to the start of the race.

Be advised that there are ‘6’ restrooms at Redwood Regional Park. We would strongly encourage arriving early (45-60 min. prior to your race). This will give you time to use the restroom, get oriented, and ready to race!

RACE START TIMES-HALF MARATHON @ 9:30AM, 10K @ 9:45AM, 5K @ 10:00AM.

The subject line says it all. Plan accordingly. We recommend arriving 45-60 minutes prior to your race start time. Bear in mind there are 250+ people participating in this race and only 200 parking spots. So, it pays to arrive early AND carpool!

REVIEW THE COURSE MAPS/ ELEVATION CHARTS, AND PRINT THE CHEAT SHEET!

The course will be well marked on race day, BUT please do some due diligence of your own. Review the course map/elevation chart for the distance you are running below-

5K Course Map/Elevation Chart

10K Course Map/Elevation Chart

Half Marathon Course Map/Elevation Chart

Course markings will include colored tape.

5K runners follow YELLOW tape.

10K runners follow BLUE tape.

Half marathoners follow RED tape.

In addition to the above, we will have volunteers (BE NICE TO THEM!) on the course helping to direct traffic.

(*NOTE-If you collected your bib you will notice that there is a red, blue, or yellow mark on it. This signifies the distance you are running on Saturday and also helps our aid station volunteers.)

BE ADVISED THAT WE DO NOT HAVE ‘EXCLUSIVE’ ACCESS TO THE TRAILS ON RACE DAY! WHAT THIS MEANS IS YOU MAY ENCOUNTER WALKERS, HIKERS, MOUNTAIN BIKERS, OTHER RUNNERS, AND A CRITTER OR TWO.

PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE YOU’RE GOING AND WHAT YOU’RE DOING. WE’D DEFINITELY DISCOURAGE WEARING HEADPHONES DURING THE RACE.

We’d also STRONGLY encourage taking a look at the turn-by-turn directions and possibly printing a copy for race day just to be safe.

Tips for a positive experience on race day!

-Check the weather! Rain is in the forecast for Friday, but it looks like it will be dry on Saturday. That being said, the weather gods can be fickle! Make sure to check the weather the next few days and plan/dress accordingly!

-For those of you running the 10K or the half marathon, we’d STRONGLY encourage you to bring a water bottle. We have multiple aid stations on the course, but it’s still a good idea to bring a water bottle just to be safe. All aid stations will include water, Electrolyte drink, and GU Energy products. You can refill your bottles at the aforementioned aid stations.

-Adjust your pacing on the hills! We know many of you are fairly new to trail running. One of the biggest differences between road running and trail running is the hills. With this in mind, back off on your pace/level of effort when you encounter hills. If you find yourself feeling markedly winded/fatigue, there is NO SHAME in taking a walk break to catch your breath and find a second wind!

-We’d discourage using an ipod/mp3 player. We know many of you LOVE listening to music when you’re on the road. But, the trail is different. You need to pay attention to the terrain in front of you as it can sometimes be uneven. Also, by listening to music, you’re potentially losing out on some of the sights/sounds of the trails (including Sassy)! To boot, our course marshalls and aid station volunteers will be playing music on the course!

If you have additional questions/concerns, drop us a line ASAP!

Cheers,

-Sasquatch Racing
