THE FINAL PRE-HONEY BADGER RACE POST

Hi All,

We’re just a few days away from the race! We’re excited and we hope you are too!

We’ve been receiving a TON of emails inquiring about a variety of things. This post is designed to address pretty much any/all questions and/or concerns you may have. PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS CAREFULLY!

WE ARE COMPLETELY SOLD OUT!

We are not supporting race day registration. We don’t have any extra spots hiding somewhere. Rest assured, we are COMPLETELY SOLD OUT!

IF YOU COLLECTED (OR ARE GOING TO COLLECT) YOUR BIB BEFORE RACE DAY, DON’T FORGET IT!

This may seem pretty basic, but we had MANY people from our first race forget to bring their bib on race day. Please remember to bring your bib as it’s the most critical piece of information by which we identify you!

BIB/SHIRT PICKUP ON RACE DAY (SATURDAY) FROM 7:30-9AM.

You can collect your bib/shirt on race day between 7:30AM-9AM at Miwok Meadows.

DIRECTIONS AND PARKING DETAILS

Wherever you are coming from, the best way to get to the race start/finish is to take the ‘North San Pedro Road’ exit off of 101 and head EAST past the Marin Civic Center. You will follow North San Pedro Road for roughly 3.5 miles before you arrive at ‘Miwok Meadows’.

There is a sign on the RIGHT side of the road that says ‘Miwok Meadows’. Park your car on the side of the road and walk up the gravel road roughly 1/4 to the start/finish area at Miwok Meadows! Here is a map link that should give you a good idea of where Miwok Meadows is..

Miwok Meadows Map Link

DO NOT DRIVE UP THE GRAVEL ROAD TO MIWOK MEADOWS AS PARKING IN THE START/FINISH AREA IS RESERVED FOR VOLUNTEERS, SPONSORS, AND THE RACE PRODUCERS/DIRECTORS.

BE ADVISED THAT THERE ARE NEARLY 400 PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN THIS RACE! WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE CARPOOLING! WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ARRANGING FOR SOMEONE TO DROP YOU OFF AND PICK YOU UP LATER!

THERE IS A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF PARALLEL PARKING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN THE AREAS ADJACENT TO MIWOK MEADOWS, BUT THERE ARE NOT 400 PARKING SPOTS!

HALF MARATHONERS START AT 9:30AM, 10K RUNNERS START AT 9:45AM, 5K RUNNERS START AT 10AM!

We STRONGLY encourage arriving early even if you already collected your bib/shirt. You may need time to find parking, walk to the start of the race, use the restroom (there will be 6 porta potties available at the start/finish area), etc.

If you haven’t looked at the course maps, videos, and/or turn-by-turn directions, here they are…

In addition to the above, we will have volunteers on the course helping to direct traffic. Each race will also be following specific colored flags.

Half marathoners follow RED flags. 10K runners follow BLUE flags, and 5K runners follow YELLOW flags.

BE ADVISED THAT WE DO NOT HAVE ‘EXCLUSIVE’ ACCESS TO THE TRAILS ON RACE DAY! WHAT THIS MEANS IS YOU MAY ENCOUNTER WALKERS, HIKERS, MOUNTAIN BIKERS, OTHER RUNNERS, AND A CRITTER OR TWO.

PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE YOU’RE GOING AND WHAT YOU’RE DOING. WE’D DEFINITELY DISCOURAGE WEARING HEADPHONES DURING THE RACE.

POST RACE!

We’ll have chilled Red Hook Beer, Zico Coconut Water, Somersault Snacks, OneBars, and our friends from Honey Badger BBQ Sauce will be sampling their awesome sauce with chicken sausages, meatballs, and veggie sausages!

Additionally, we’ll have post-race massage therapists on site to help work out any kinks.

The top male/female runner in each race scores the following…

-Half Marathon winners (A FREE Night at ANY Kimpton Hotel + $125 dining/drinking gift certificate for any Kimpton restaurant + road id gift certificates)

-10K winners (A 60 minute massage from PSOAS Massage/Bodywork)+ road id gift certificates)

-5K winners (trail runner magazine gift certificates + road id gift certificates)

It looks like we will have a BEAUTIFUL day on Saturday and we have two large picnic areas reserved for the race until 2PM. So, if you want to have a little post-race picnic in the start/finish area, feel free!

HONEY BADGER MERCHANDISE/APPAREL!

If you want a hoodie, we’ll be selling them for $30 ($10 goes to Friends of China Camp). We’ll also have extra technical shirts you can purchase for $20 and Honey Badger water bottles for $5. If you’re interested in any of these items, bring a credit/debit card as we won’t be set up to handle cash.

BRING ANY/ALL EXTRA TOILETRIES ON RACE DAY AND SUPPORT PROJECT OPEN HAND!

Please bring your extra toiletries (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, shaving cream, conditioner, bodywash, face cloths, alcohol-free mouthwash, etc.) and help San Francisco’s seniors and critically ill. Our friends at Project Open Hand GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!

TIPS FOR A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE ON RACE DAY!

-It could be in the 60’s when the race starts! It appears the high will be 72 on Saturday. So, conditions will be fairly warm. Seek out shade where/when you can, drink water (and/or sports drink) regularly throughout the race, and plan accordingly for the heat.

-BRING WATER! There is NOT a water fountain at the start/finish area! There are ‘2’ aid stations for the 10K, ‘1’ for the 5K, and ‘5’ for the half marathon. All aid stations will include water, GU Energy Electrolyte drink, and GU Energy products. You can refill your bottles at the aforementioned aid stations. We will also do our best to bring PLENTY of water/electrolyte drink to the start/finish area, but be advised THERE IS NO WATER FOUNTAIN/SPIGOT AT THE START/FINISH AREA!

-Adjust your pacing on the hills! We know many of you are fairly new to trail running. One of the biggest differences between road running and trail running is the hills. With this in mind, back off on your pace/level of effort when you encounter hills. If you find yourself feeling markedly winded/fatigue, there is NO SHAME in taking a walk break to catch your breath and find a second wind!

-We’d discourage using an ipod/mp3 player. We know many of you LOVE listening to music when you’re on the road. But, the trail is different. You need to pay attention to the terrain in front of you as it can sometimes be uneven. Also, by listening to music, you’re potentially losing out on some of the sights/sounds of the trails (including Honey Badger)! To boot, our course marshalls and aid station volunteers will be playing music on the course!

If the magnum opus above hasn’t addressed ALL of you questions/concerns, drop us a line!

Cheers!

-Sasquatch Racing
