Honey Badger’s BADA$$ Words of Wisdom..

We recently had the good fortune to chat with Honey Badger. We were hoping Honey Badger would share a few running tips. Honey Badger indulged us and what we came away with may help your running, but as it turns out some of the tips are also applicable to leading a life that’s a bit more BADA$$! Read on..

Cop a snarl every once in awhile.

Running on the trails isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It gets dirty, it gets rough, it gets mean. A good snarl can help you get through those challenging moments. Here’s one of my better snarls if you’re looking for an example.

Be BADA$$!

While I seemingly have no known natural predators and I waltz into a beehive like it’s my living room, my paws tremble every once in awhile. It’s ok to be afraid. But, don’t let fear stop you! Remind yourself of your training and the obstacles you have overcome to get to the starting line. BE BADA$$!

Don’t Care!

Everyone wants to set personal bests and place in their age group, but running is about having fun too. So run like you DON’T CARE every once in awhile! Put away your training schedule. Stick your heart rate monitor in a drawer. Don’t think about where you’re going or how far you’re going to run. Put your watch away and just go out and hit the road (or trail).

NOM!NOM!NOM!

Sorry…I had my mouth full of cobra. I guess the message here is ‘fuel properly’. Well…that’s not entirely true. I like to have ice cream and beer sometimes with my cobra. Fuel properly and ‘improperly’? Sure…it may not be the BEST thing in the world for you to have a sundae, but you just ran (or scrambled) 10 miles (or more)! Reward yourself every once in awhile for your BADA$$ efforts.

Get Back Up!

Everyone falls down. I did not too long ago. I took down a king cobra and suffered a bite in the process. I’m embarrassed to admit it, but I passed out from the cobra venom. BUT, I was back up on my feet ready to go after a few minutes. So…if you do fall down while you’re running on the road or trail, get back up as quickly as you can! The race doesn’t always go to the swiftest. It often goes to the most determined. GRRRRRRR!

Take what you want.

Very few things in life come to you. You have to go out and ‘take’ what you want. If I want some king cobra or bee larvae, no one’s going to deliver it to me! I wish someone would every once in awhile. But, that’s not the way things work in my world. So, I have to go out and take what I want. That may mean I have to work pretty hard. But, it’s pretty gratifying dragging a freshly slain king cobra back home knowing that ‘I’ did it myself. Go after that personal best. No one’s giving it to you.

Develop a thick skin.

I’m very fortunate in that I already have thick skin. Bee stings don’t bother me too much, nor do machete blows. Nor do many of the things I hear people say about me. Some people call me ‘crazy’ and ‘nasty’. But, I know the truth. I’m BADA$$! Truth be told, I’ve come to embrace the idea that I’m a bit crazy and nasty as well! While you may not have to deal with bee stings or machetes often, don’t let the words of people who don’t know you get you down.
